Music Academy

Launched on 17 September 2022, the LEH Foshan Music Academy is open to all students at LEH Foshan as well as students outside of the school.

Discover the thrill of music with LEH International School Foshan as we proudly announce the enrollment for our Music Academy 2024-2025! Open to all ages, from 5 years old to adult learners, we welcome both current students and newcomers from the general public to join our vibrant musical community. 

Our Philosophy

At LEH Foshan Music Academy, we believe in making music education enjoyable while equipping students with the confidence, skills, techniques, and discipline to become accomplished musicians. Our curriculum caters to those pursuing graded exams via the ABRSM or Trinity College London examination boards, as well as those learning for sheer pleasure. We ensure steady progress through detailed term and year-end reports, outlining achievements, development, and future targets. 

 

Our Lessons

Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Clarinet, Oboe, Flute, Saxophone, Trombone, Guitar (classical, electric, acoustic, bass), Drum Kit, Timpani, Orchestral Percussion, Singing and Music Theory, following the ABRSM grade syllabus

Our Teachers

Our team of visiting teachers is passionate about music and dedicated to student development. They hold advanced qualifications in Music from prestigious universities or conservatoires and are committed to helping students achieve their personal goals and exam requirements. All our teachers are fully CRB-checked. 

 

Dates

The Music Academy sessions will be held on Saturdays from 08:00 to 17:00 during each Term (holidays excluded). 

LEH Foshan students may jointhe lessons during the school day (Prep School and year 7) and during ECA times (priority for these times given to students in years 8-13), from Monday to Friday.

  • 30-minute sessions: Suitable for beginners to grade 5. 

  • 60-minute sessions: Suitable for grade 6 to grade 8, and Diploma.

LEH Foshan Teachers

Mr David Hobourn, Director of the Music Academy  

Mr Hobourn, Director of Music, brings over 25 years of global experience in music education and performance, having held Organist positions at the cathedrals of Canterbury and Bristol (UK), and Dunedin (New Zealand) and teaching positions in the UK, France, and Thailand. A Graduate of Trinity College of Music (now Trinity Laban) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, Mr Hobourn has performed internationally and served as a music examiner for Trinity College London since 1999. 

 


 

Mr James Smale, Head of Prep Music

Since graduating with distinction from Trinity College of Music (now Trinity Laban), Head of Prep Music Mr James Smale has over 20 years of teaching experience in prep and senior schools as well as at university level. He is passionate about co-curricular music and has directed choirs, orchestras, and a range of contemporary ensembles. As a Trinity College London examiner and consultant, he has assessed students in over 25 countries. He performed for six years in the orchestra at Oper Graz in Austria.

Music Facilities at LEH Foshan

LEH Foshan is proud of its world-class musical facilities, including 18 practice rooms, a large Concert Hall, 8 upright pianos (Kawai, Feurich, and Ritmuller) and a Kawai Grand Piano. A wide range of tuned and untuned percussion instruments are used for KS2 and KS3 class music lessons.
