We are delighted to continue our Prep Teacher Introduction Series and introduce Mr Tennant to you in this article. Since joining LEH Foshan as one of the founding Prep School teachers in August 2022, he has been instrumental in creating an environment where academic excellence and personal growth flourish. Recently, we had the pleasure of speaking with him about his teaching experiences, approaches, and aspirations.
Looking back, Mr Tennant recalls: “It has been incredibly rewarding to see the Prep School grow and flourish. We have built a strong, supportive community, and the students have made fantastic progress both academically and personally.”

Mr Tennant is our Pine Class teacher here in Prep School In his teaching career of nearly 10 years in both the UK and China, Mr Tennant has gained a diverse range of teaching skills ranging —from teaching adults and children Wing Chun for a worldwide Martial Arts Organisation to working as an ELL teacher. He has rich experience in building and maintaining excellent student relationships. Mr Tennant holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Chemical Science from the University of the West of England and a PGCE QTS qualification.
Building a Vibrant Community
Reflecting on his journey at LEH Foshan, Mr Tennant shares, “I love the positive and dynamic atmosphere. The students are eager to learn, the staff are passionate, and there is a real sense of collaboration and innovation.”
He values this inspiring environment, where every member of the community is committed to learning and growth. The supportive culture at LEH Foshan has been pivotal in celebrating both academic achievements and personal milestones.
I want my students to develop confidence in their abilities, a strong sense of independence, and a lifelong love for learning. Academic growth is important, but so is their personal and social development.
Innovative Teaching Approaches
In the classroom, Mr Tennant’s engaging and interactive style sets the stage for exploration and discovery. “My teaching style is engaging and interactive. I encourage questioning, hands-on learning, and real-world connections to spark curiosity and inspire my students to explore beyond the classroom,” he enthuses.
Recognising that each student learns differently, “I use a range of strategies, such as differentiation and personalised support. For example, I adapt tasks to suit different learning styles and provide scaffolding where needed, ensuring every child can achieve success,” he adds. His methods ensure that every student is both challenged and supported, fostering a classroom environment where curiosity is rewarded and learning is a joyful journey.
Expanding Impact Through Multiple Roles
Beyond his classroom teaching, Mr Tennant plays several key roles at Prep School. As the Science Lead, he brings the subject to life by incorporating experiments, investigations, and real-life applications. Encouraging students to think critically and ask ‘why’ helps them see the wonder in the world around them,” he remarks.
Additionally, as Phoenix House Master, he creates invaluable opportunities for students to develop their communication, confidence, and leadership skills. “I provide opportunities for students to voice their ideas, take responsibility, and work collaboratively. Through meetings, projects, and school events, they learn to express themselves and develop leadership qualities,” he explains.
Beyond the Classroom
Outside the classroom, Mr Tennant’s personal interests further enrich his teaching and broaden his perspective. He enjoys “reading, travelling, and staying active. Exploring new places and cultures is something I find particularly enriching, and I love bringing those experiences into my teaching.” These passions infuse his lessons with fresh, real-world insights and a global outlook that resonates with his students.
