LEH Foshan recently hosted its inaugural Art Auction and accompanying exhibition, an event that combined artistic talent and charitable spirit to support Shining Star, a local charity dedicated to helping left-behind children in Guangdong province. Featuring over 50 exceptional pieces of student artwork, the evening was a resounding success, raising an impressive 20,838 RMB to fund a summer programme for these children.
Celebrating Talent and Generosity
The Art Auction was a vibrant and inspiring evening, filling the school’s theatre with energy and excitement. Guests gathered not only to admire the exceptional talent of LEH Foshan’s students but also to support a good cause.
The evening began with a heartfelt introduction from Ms Summer Tan, a representative of Shining Star. She shared her inspiring story of growing up and founding the charity, offering insight into the challenges faced by left-behind children in Guangdong province and how Shining Star is making a difference. Guests were deeply moved by her words and the personal stories of the children whose lives have been transformed by the charity’s work.
From the moment the bidding began, the atmosphere was electric. Guests enthusiastically competed for standout pieces, including vivid acrylic paintings, intricate ceramic vases, and captivating mixed-media creations, all of which reflected the students’ originality, skill, and dedication.
One particularly beautiful painting of a Unicorn from a Year 10 student sparked a bidding war, while a beautifully crafted glazed vase by a Year 9 student became a crowd favourite.
It was heartwarming to see every piece of artwork find a new home by the end of the night, symbolising not only the appreciation for our students’ talent but also the collective effort of the community to support Shining Star.
Dr Kirk, Head of Academics and our ‘newly-promoted’ auctioneer, shared his joy in leading the event:

A Legacy of Compassion
The success of this event reflects not only the incredible talent of our students but also the enduring values of the LEH community. Founded in 1710 by Lady Eleanor Holles, LEH School was established to provide education to underprivileged girls—an act of vision and compassion. This remarkable legacy continues to inspire our school’s commitment to supporting those in need while nurturing creativity and excellence in every student.
Rooted in this legacy, LEH Foshan proudly carries forward the tradition of combining creativity with generosity. Events like the Art Auction highlight the powerful impact of art and community working together to make a difference.
Thank You
The success of the auction reflects the strength of our school community, where art, compassion, and service intersect to create something truly impactful. A heartfelt thank you to our student artists, the dedicated organisers, and every parent and guest who participated. Together, we have shown what can be achieved when creativity and generosity unite.
This event was a powerful reminder of how small actions can make a big difference, and we look forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come.
