Over the final two weeks of term, our Year 11 students took part in a thoughtfully designed Transition Programme, led by Head of Academics, Mr Norton. Running from Tuesday 16th June through to the Prize Giving ceremony on Friday 26th June, the programme provided a meaningful bridge between the demands of IGCSE examinations and the exciting opportunities ahead in Sixth Form.
Why the Transition Programme Matters?
Moving from Year 11 into Sixth Form is a significant step, both academically and personally. This programme was created to help students make that transition with confidence, supporting them in shifting from exam-focused learning to the independence, curiosity and subject depth required at A Level. It also allowed students to celebrate and reflect on their achievements, explore future pathways, and begin developing the habits of successful Sixth Form learners.

Key Benefits for Students
The programme offered a blend of personal development, academic preparation and enrichment experiences. Students gained:
-
Greater independence and resilience through outdoor and team-based challenges.
-
Real-world insight into future careers, particularly through exposure to professional environments.
-
A stronger understanding of their chosen A Level subjects through introductory lessons.
-
Guidance on maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle as young adults.

These experiences ensure that students not only feel prepared for Year 12 but are also motivated and inspired as they take their next steps.
Programme Highlights
The two-week schedule was packed with engaging and memorable activities
Maofengshan Hike and House Basketball
The programme began with an energetic outdoor adventure. Students took part in a 3–4 km treasure hunt hike, building teamwork and resilience, before returning to compete in a spirited House Basketball competition.

Inspiring Speaker Session
Students attended a thought-provoking talk focused on leading a healthy, safe and responsible adult life, equipping them with practical advice for the future.

Hospital Experience and Dragon Boat Celebration
A visit to a local hospital allowed students to explore a range of medical careers and gain insight into real-world working environments. The day concluded with lively Dragon Boat festivities, celebrating collaboration and school spirit.

Sixth Form Introduction Week
Students immersed themselves in their chosen A Level subjects, attending double lessons in each discipline. This provided valuable insight into the academic expectations and opportunities awaiting them in Sixth Form.

The programme culminated in the whole-school Prize Giving ceremony, a fitting celebration of the year’s achievements and a chance to recognise the efforts of our Year 11 cohort.
A Message from Mr Norton
Reflecting on the programme, Mr Norton shared his pride in the students’ achievements and resilience:
I would like to congratulate all Year 11 students for how you have handled the exam season. We know this can be a stressful time, and you have all done really well. We hope this Transition Programme has helped you reflect on all that you have achieved and set you up for a positive and successful start to Year 12.
He also extended thanks to parents for their continued support and wished families a happy and restful summer.
As our Year 11 students prepare to step into Sixth Form, this Transition Programme has provided them with not only a strong foundation, but also lasting memories of teamwork, curiosity and celebration.
