Our campus at LEH Foshan buzzed with the vibrant energy of Shakespeare’s timeless tales during Shakespeare Week, right before the 2023-2024 school year finished. Students from Prep to Secondary immersed themselves in the rich language and unforgettable characters of one of history’s greatest playwrights, transforming our school into a living, breathing tribute to his work.
Engaging with Shakespeare helps our students, from Prep to Secondary, develop critical thinking and language skills, while also fostering empathy and a deeper understanding of human experiences. Their enthusiasm and creativity were evident in every performance and presentation.
A highlight of the week was our ‘All the School’s a Stage’ event, where students transformed different areas of our school into theatrical spaces, bringing Shakespeare’s beautiful language to life. Each year group took on a unique project, from Year 3’s lively enactment of ‘Twelfth Night’ to Year 9’s powerful performances of ‘Macbeth’ and ‘Sonnet 116’. They brought a host of colourful characters to life, infusing some of Shakespeare’s most beautiful language into the various spaces around our school.

Shakespeare Week at LEH Foshan saw a range of activities and performances taking place. In Secondary School, Year 7 displayed and performed their Shakespeare in a Box project; in small groups, they made puppet theatres and performed scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The Year 8s each learned a speech from a range of plays, all of which are taken from the LAMDA Shakespeare examination series. One student, Antonio, has already performed his piece in the examination, portraying Orlando from the comedy As You Like It. Other characters included Puck from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the star-crossed lover Juliet and Miranda, the beautiful young maiden from The Tempest.

One class of Year 9s donned witches’ hats and put on their creepy voices to portray the ghastly prophets from the tragedy of Macbeth. Another Year 9 class performed Sonnet 116, a love poem that explores what the true nature of real love is. Others from the same year acted as narrators for the Year 8 solo acts, helping the audience to understand the scene being performed.

The excitement of Shakespeare continued throughout Prep School, too!
Mr Corr’s Year 6 class researched the life events of Shakespeare and produced a timeline of his life to present to parents. Mr Tennant’s Year 6 class confidently performed sonnets in the Prep School library, whilst Year 5 astounded the audience with their fantastic enactment of Macbeth.
Mr Jones’ Year 4 class chose some of Shakespeare’s greatest plays and gave an overview of each in an informative and theatrical manner.

My class (Year 3) dazzled the audience with their rendition of Shakespeare’s famous play Twelfth Night.
The Prep students impressed both staff and parents alike with their commitment and enthusiasm to learning about Shakespeare! A truly magical display, well done to all involved!
These activities not only make Shakespeare accessible but also enrich our broader curriculum, encouraging literacy, creativity, and a love for storytelling. The joy and excitement that the students shared with their families were heartwarming, and we received wonderful feedback from parents.
Shakespeare Week at LEH Foshan was a resounding success, showcasing the creativity and dedication of our students. We look forward to building on this year’s success with even more exciting activities in the future. Thank you to everyone who made this week unforgettable.
