On 12 April, LEH Foshan celebrated the success of its Prep and Secondary students at the I Youth Swimming Challenge.
The success of LEH Foshan’s swimming team is a testament to the vital role physical education plays in holistic student development. Beyond building strength and endurance, sports like swimming foster discipline, teamwork, and resilience. These are qualities that extend far beyond the pool. As students push their physical limits, they also cultivate mental toughness, self-confidence, and emotional well-being, proving that athletic achievement is about more than just medals; it’s about shaping well-rounded individuals prepared for life’s challenges.

Mr Jason Lu, Senior Swimming Coach who has guided students through countless unforgettable moments, shared his reflections on the team's journey,
Q Can you walk us through the swimming training schedule at LEH Foshan?
Our Prep and Secondary School swimming teams conduct regular training during ECA (Extra-Curricular Activity) periods on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays throughout the third term. Additionally, we offer optional supplementary training sessions every Tuesday, Thursday at 6-7.10am, and Saturday 9-11am, 11-12.30am for swimmers seeking extra practice.
Q Our team has delivered some exceptional performances this year. What stands out to you most about their progress and achievements?
What truly matters to me isn’t how fast each child can swim, but the effort they invest in their goals, their resilience in overcoming challenges, and the courage they show when facing fear. Nearly every student has left an indelible mark on me.
I’ve watched Mathea refine her technique with relentless focus, pushing past her perceived limits. I’ve seen Sebastian rally through illness to support his team in the relay. I’ve admired Kelly’s determination to sprint to a new personal best despite injury. Harry’s unwavering commitment to every training session, culminating in hard-earned success, and Travis’s all-out sprint toward a self-set goal—these moments define what inspires me.
What moves me most is their passion and dedication. Many competed for the first time, yet they gave their all to perform at their highest level. My message to them remains constant: Take that first step. Surpass who you were yesterday. Keep striving.
Q What message do you have for students who want to join the swimming team next year?
To Future Swimming Team Members:
1. Discover joy in the water – Cultivate your passion and embrace the freedom swimming brings.
2. Compete with yourself – Each small improvement builds unshakable confidence.
3. The team is your second family – Learn by observing, grow by cooperating, and thrive in our unique team spirit.
4. Failure is part of growth – Success isn’t constant, but every setback teaches us how to rise stronger.
5. Master your time – Balance is key to excellence, both in and out of the pool.
6. Take this journey at your own pace. Join our swimming team and let its power energize and transform you.

We’re delighted to share insights from Mr Nicholas Lomas, our Physical Education Teacher, as he details our swimming programme and extracurricular offerings.
Q Could you briefly introduce the swimming curriculum at LEH Foshan, and the key skills students develop through the programme?
LEH Foshan’s swimming curriculum is designed to equip students with essential water-based skills, including lifesaving techniques, personal water safety, competitive swimming strokes, and even water polo. The programme emphasises both physical and mental benefits, helping students build strength, flexibility, stamina, and confidence while fostering social connections through teamwork and friendly competition.
Q What are some other swimming ECA options for those who do not enter the team?
For students who do not join the swimming team, the school offers an ECA swimming programme tailored to different skill levels, such as water polo and recreational swimming. This structure ensures that students can develop their abilities in a safe and supportive environment, receiving individualised guidance to improve their technique and confidence in the water.
The hard-earned victories, personal breakthroughs, and unwavering teamwork—stands as a testament to their dedication and the vision of our coaching staff. Whether chasing personal bests or fostering a love for the water, every dive, stroke, and training session embodies the spirit of "Dive into Excellence."
Here’s to continuing the legacy, inspiring the next wave of swimmers, and making a splash in all that lies ahead.
