Q How were the participating professionals, industries, and institutions selected?

We made sure to invite a mix of local businesspeople, exciting industries, and educational institutions that matched students’ interests but also showcased the diverse range of experts that make up our Parent Committee. The goal was to provide a well-rounded selection that could spark curiosity and excitement.

Q How did teachers, parents, and external partners contribute to the success of the event?

The school promotes careers through PSHE lessons, the Maths department has a display board full of interesting jobs. Tutors helped students prepare questions, the Parent Committee shared useful connections, and external partners brought their expertise to the table. It was truly a team effort, with everyone coming together to make the day memorable.

Q What core skills/mindsets do you wish students to gain from the Career Fair?

I hoped students would build confidence, sharpen their critical thinking, and learn the value of being adaptable in today’s fast-changing world. Networking skills and the courage to ask questions were definitely encouraged!

April was our Career Month, and LEH Foshan places great importance on the role of career planning in students' learning and growth. In this segment, we invited Mrs Arden, our Headteacher, to join us in reflecting on our Career Month.

Q What inspired you to introduce Career Month in the school community?

Career Month was introduced with the intention of providing our students with a comprehensive understanding of the many possibilities available to them in the future. We believe that career planning is a critical part of their development and long-term success. It’s not just about choosing a career, but also about fostering curiosity, confidence, and commitment to learning. By engaging with professionals, alumni, and teachers, we can help our students think more broadly about the future and gain real-world insights into potential pathways. Ultimately, it’s about inspiring them to be bold and to hope for the future they want to create.

Q How do you believe these events contribute to the overall development of our students and staff?

The events that take place during Career Month allow students to engage with professionals and alumni from a wide variety of fields. This exposure helps them understand the real-world applications of their studies and discover new opportunities they may never have considered. For staff, Career Month offers a unique chance to actively participate in shaping students’ futures, while collaborating across departments and with external partners. For both students and staff, the month encourages deeper thinking about personal growth, professional development, and the importance of a balanced, well-rounded skill set. We also want to deepen our connection with LEH London, our sister school, allowing students to widen their horizons, connect with a global alumni network, and realize that the world is becoming smaller, but their dreams are growing bigger.

Q How does the school measure the long-term effects of Career Planning Month on students’ choices (subjects, extracurriculars, university)?

At LEH Foshan, we monitor the impact of Career Planning Month through both formal and informal channels. This includes tracking students' subject and extracurricular choices post-event, the feedback we receive from university applications, and the subsequent reflections shared by students. We encourage them to review their career aspirations and reflect on how the Career Month activities shaped their choices. We also maintain ongoing dialogue with students, ensuring they’re supported in refining their paths as they transition from one phase of their education to the next. By connecting them with our wider school community, we help ensure that students are empowered to choose paths that align with their growing aspirations.

The Career Planning theme aligns with our educational goals by encouraging students to integrate their academic interests with their passions and talents. Career planning isn’t a one-time event, it’s a continual process of self-discovery, exploration, and development. The earlier we start to reflect on our passions and explore the many possibilities, the more confident and well-prepared we are to make informed choices. By fostering curiosity and providing guidance, we help students take ownership of their futures, aligning with the values of hope and boldness that define our school.
