KS3 (Year 7-9), KS4 (Year 10-11) or Sixth Form (Year 12-13) Application Process

If you are an external applicant and you wish to apply for the Academic Scholarship, you should indicate this on your Application Form by ticking the appropriate box and submitting your form by the deadline.

If you are a parent of an existing LEH Foshan student moving into KS3, KS4 or the Sixth Form, you will receive a letter from the Headteacher asking if your child wishes to apply for any of the scholarships. If you would like your child to be considered for an Academic Scholarship, you should complete and return the Scholarship Form by the given deadline.

 

Open to

All internal and external applicants applying for the Academic Scholarships need to sit special exams, including English and Maths alongside one subject of your choosing. Shortlisted candidates will be informed to come back for another interview.

 

Expectations of an Academic Scholar

Given the academically selective nature of the school, we expect all students to show intellectual curiosity. We are looking for someone who has a very inquisitive mind and well-developed independence of thought. These are the kind of things that will be looked for during the interview.

We expect all academic scholars to continue to exhibit the qualities which they demonstrated at the interview. Whilst there is no expectation of a certain standard of outcome and performance under examination, we expect scholars to achieve effort grades above the average for the school. This requires a high level of focus and active participation in lessons. In addition, they should show interest beyond the classroom, including attendance in lectures and academic clubs and a willingness to enter into school competitions and national competitions.

It is envisaged that these high expectations will not be a burden to the scholars since they will take these in their stride and really enjoy the intellectual challenge as they progress through the school.

 

Academic Exhibitions

Academic Exhibitions are awarded to younger applicants to recognise their academic potential. This will be awarded at the discretion of the Headteacher.

KS4 (Year 10-11) or Sixth Form (Year 12-13) Application Process

If you are an external applicant and you wish to apply for an Art Scholarship, you should indicate this on your Application Form by ticking the appropriate box and submitting your form by the deadline.

If you are a parent of an existing LEH Foshan student moving into KS4 or the Sixth Form, you will receive a letter from the Headteacher asking if your child wishes to apply for any of the KS4 or Sixth Form scholarships. If you would like your child to be considered for an Art Scholarship, you should complete and return the Scholarship Form by the given deadline.

As an Art Scholarship applicant, your portfolio will be reviewed. In addition, you may wish to submit additional pieces of work. These could include work created on courses or in sketch books.

Please also write a short explanation of why you are applying for the Art Scholarship and what you hope to study when you leave school and submit this information with your application.

 

Open to

The Art Scholarship is open to external and internal candidates entering KS4 or the Sixth Form. Applicants should be planning to study A Level Art. Selected applicants will be invited to attend a short interview.

 

Expectations of an Art Scholar

You will be invited to create artwork for the school over the course as an Art Scholar.

 

Art Scholars enjoy

As an Art Scholar you will receive complimentary tickets to gallery trips.

Key Stage 3 (Year 7-9), KS4 (Year 10-11) or Sixth Form (Year 12-13) Application Process

If you are an external applicant and you wish to apply for an Music Scholarship, you should indicate this on your Application Form by ticking the appropriate box and submitting your form by the deadline.

If you are a parent of an existing LEH Foshan student moving into KS3, KS4 or the Sixth Form, you will receive a letter from the Headteacher asking if your child wishes to apply for any of the KS3, KS4 or Sixth Form scholarships. If you would like your child to be considered for a Music Scholarship, you should complete and return the Scholarship Form by the given deadline.

 

Open to

The Music Scholarship is open to external and internal candidates entering KS3, KS4 or the Sixth Form. Applicants should be planning to study Music at IGCSE level. And they will be strongly encouraged to study Music at A Level. Selected applicants will be invited to attend an audition.

Applicants should have at least grade 6 level in ABRSM (or equivalent) exams on their first-study instrument and preferrablly take lessons on two or more instruments (which can include voice), one of which should be an orchestral instrument.

 

Audition Process

Candidates will be asked to:

• perform two contrasting pieces on their first study instrument
• perform one piece on their second study instrument
• play scales and arpeggios as directed
• perform an appropriate level of sightreading on their first study instrument
• complete a set of oral and voice tests

Auditions will be attended by the Director of Music and possibly a specialist teacher, and the Headteacher.

 

Expectations of a Music Scholar

Music Scholars at LEH Foshan should:

• demonstrate a genuine passion for music making at the highest levels
• show a consistent commitment and dedication to the improvement of their own musical and technical skills
• be expected to make the study and rehearsal of music their first priority
• participate in at least two Music ensembles, such as Choir, Chamber Choirs (auditioned), Symphony Orchestra, Chamber ensembles, Jazz Group, Rock Band
• be expected to perform as a soloist
• act as accompanists for soloists, choirs, and chamber ensembles (if a first-study pianist)
• attend and participate in master classes
•  strongly encouraged to help younger students in Theory Classes (students from Year 10)

While attainment, technique, and creative flair are key requisites, potential and aspiration are just as important (if not more so) in seeing and hearing from young musicians with the hunger, drive, and creativity to be the best musician they can possibly be, regardless of how many grades or exams have been taken.

 

Music Scholars enjoy

• performing opportunities in various concerts
• the opportunity to play in assembly at least once a term
• participation in a chamber group with specialist coaching

 

Music Exhibitions

If you would like your child to be considered for the Sports Scholarship, you should complete and return the Scholarships Form by the given deadline.

 

Open to

The Sports Scholarship is open to external and internal candidates entering KS3, KS4 or the Sixth Form. Sports Scholarships are offered to students who show exceptional ability in the sport of their choice (which may or may not be a school sport). If you are an internal candidate you will be expected to have made a significant contribution to sport during your time at the school and intend to continue with that contribution.

All applicants should also provide a sports curriculum vitae detailing their chosen sport, participation and achievements in their chosen sport and in other sports and, if appropriate, their sports outside school. Selected applicants will be invited to attend a short interview.

 

Expectations of a Sports Scholar

As the Sports Scholar, your contribution will not just relate to your participation but will also include coaching and promotion of sport in general within the school. Other important factors include the level and breadth of contribution to school sport, reliability and leadership qualities amongst peers and performance as a role model for younger age groups.

 

Sport Scholars enjoy

Leading LEH Foshan sports teams, regularly captaining 1^st teams and representing LEH Foshan at sporting competitions.

Sixth Form (Year 12-13) Application Process

If you are an external applicant applying for Sixth Form entry, and you wish to apply for the STEM Scholarship, you should indicate this on your Application Form by ticking the appropriate box and submitting your form by the deadline.

If you are a parent of an existing LEH Foshan student moving into the Sixth Form, you will receive a letter from the Headteacher asking if your child wishes to apply for any of the Sixth Form scholarships. If you would like your child to be considered for the STEM Scholarship, you must complete and return the Scholarships Form by the given deadline.

 

Open to

The STEM Scholarship is open to external and internal candidates entering the Sixth Form to study STEM subjects. As a prospective STEM Scholar, you will be studying one or more STEM subjects at A Level.

Applicants should demonstrate their passion for one or more STEM subject (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Mathematics, Mathematics, Physics or Design Technology) and intend to pursue further study and possibly a career path in a STEM related area.

Applicants need to provide a covering letter, addressed to the Head of Science Faculty, with your application explaining why you are applying and outlining your current plans for future study and potential career path. You will need to demonstrate a passion for your subjects and explain what you feel you could contribute to extracurricular life of the school. Selected applicants will be invited to give a short presentation.

 

Expectations of a STEM Scholar

The STEM Scholar is expected to be a positive role model for STEM and contribute to extra curricular activities.
